31.03.2021
Nearly thirty of the most esteemed persons in our country and representatives of stakeholders on the topics - business, government institutions, NGOs, industry organisations, academia and consultants - participate in the Centre.

„The green transformation has begun, and we believe that it is appropriate for leading institutions such as BSE and IBEX together with all stakeholders to start the debate, to pursue trends and policies in the economic and social life on the topics of sustainable finance and energy. We are willing to mobilise the entire expert potential of our country. Relying on the best experience of Europe and the world we are convinced that we will by all means contribute to the sustainable development of business in Bulgaria“, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Manyu Moravenov, Executive Director of BSE.

Although 83.9% of the companies estimate their developed policies above-average, over 41% of them experience lack of information and 37.5% of the companies point out the lack of codes and methodological documentation with practical orientation. This became clear from the research of the environment comprising aspects of the ecology, social responsibility and good corporate governance (the so-called ESG practices - Environmental, Social, Governance), conducted among 56 companies of 7 economic sectors by VUZF Lab on behalf of BSE. The research was presented by Prof. Dr. Virginia Zhelyazkova, Vice-rector for Education and Quality Management of VUZF University.

Manyu Moravenov and Konstantin Konstantinov, executive directors of BSE and IBEX, presented the mission, goals and the first initiatives of the Green Centre. These include raising business awareness, upgrading the good corporate governance code with environmental and social responsibility aspects, establishing a stock Green Index to encourage companies to implement ESG practices and to distinguish the best performing companies.

Special guests of the event were Marinela Petrova - Deputy Minister of Finance, Zhecho Stankov - Deputy Minister of Energy, Maria Filipova - Deputy Chair of the Financial Supervision Commission in charge of the Supervision of the Investment Activities Division and Aleksandar Georgiev - Executive Director of the Fund of Funds.
Eva Maydell, Member of the European Parliament, and Anthony Miller, General Coordinator of the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative, shared the views of Europe and the world on sustainable finance and energy.

The participants gave a symbolic start of the Green Centre activities by digitally signing a Bulgarian Charter for sustainable economic development.
