Green Centre and the Municipality of Stara Zagora announce a key partnership in the field of sustainability
Sofia, January 12, 2023 – The Green Centre for Sustainable Finance and Energy and the Municipality of Stara Zagora have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, launching a new full-fledged partnership in support of the sustainable development of the city and the region. This is the first Memorandum of Understanding that the Green Centre has signed with a Bulgarian municipality.

„In the face of the Green Centre, the municipality of Stara Zagora has a reliable and like-minded partner. It is our shared mission to develop activities contributing towards the sustainable development of Bulgaria and the wider promotion of ESG, green and sustainable practices in the finance and energy sectors. This partnership is an important milestone which marks the beginning of a fruitful collaboration on a number of educational and practical initiatives that will help industry and society learn more about the topic of sustainability and how it can be successfully implemented by all of us,“ stated Assoc. Prof. Manyu Moravenov, Chairman of the Green Center and Executive director of the BSE.

„We are happy to announce our partnership with the Green Centre and to start working together on impactful initiatives, which will undoubtedly benefit both businesses and society at large in Stara Zagora, but also contribute to building recognition for both partners as leaders in sustainability.“, stated Zhivko Todorov, Mayor of Stara Zagora.

In line with the Memorandum of Understanding, the Green Centre and the Municipality of Stara Zagora plan to organize individual meetings between interested companies and representatives of the Green Center and to hold joint specialized trainings, round tables, conferences and other events.

How Bulgarian Businesses Report Their ESG Progress

Sofia, May 27, 2025 – The first report prepared by the think tank for sustainable finance and energy, the Green Centre, was presented on Tuesday, May 27, at Sofia University. The report focuses on how Bulgarian companies report their sustainability performance. The study, compiled by a team from the Green Centre, the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, and consultants including Prof. Dr Ec. Sc. Virginia Zhelyazkova, Prof. Dr Daniela Bobeva, Assoc. Prof. Dr Marina Stefanova, Prof. Dr Spartak Keremidchiev, and others covered 214 Bulgarian companies — including banks, state-owned enterprises, publicly listed companies, and energy firms.
